Lakeila R. Stemmons is an attorney and strategist with an accomplished record of helping attorneys, business leaders, civil rights and social justice advocates, professional athletes and non-profit organizations develop and execute strategic plans and policy initiatives that advance progressive agendas. Her consulting firm, Stemmons Strategies, has worked to increase voting rights, healthcare access and economic development in distressed communities. 

As national director for Higher Heights for America, Stemmons is focused on expanding membership and engagement strategy.  She also manages strategic partnerships and major campaigns such as #BlackWomenVote.


In addition to her role with Higher Heights, Stemmons continues to serve as a pro bono attorney for the Veterans Pro Bono Consortium. Prior to these roles, she served as executive director of the National Voter Protection Action Fund where she built and maintained relationships with local and federal stakeholders while working to develop and implement strategies to ensure that every vote was protected. Stemmons began her career as a tax and financial services attorney for a big 4 accounting firm. Her passion for representing marginalized communities prompted her departure from corporate law, and in 2012 she became a regional get out the vote director for Obama for America. Stemmons holds a MBA in Finance and received her law degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
